Dear
Westbrook Baseball Fans,
After
two months as the new Westbrook baseball coach I, can say
that I am excited and impressed with everything associated
with Westbrook. The booster club is top notch, the administration
is first rate, and the players have been more than I expected.
Westbrook has always been a baseball town. The Little League
complex is by far the best in the state. Westbrook rates
third behind Portland and Deering in Telegram League titles
with 18. My goal, as the new coach, is to get to where,
year in and year out, Westbrook Baseball will be mentioned,
with the Portlands and Deerings, as perennial favorites.
The
2008 Blazes are a very talented and young team. At least
three Freshmen will be in the line-up, with another two
on the mound. At least two upper classmen will be playing
Varsity for the first time. I am expecting a great deal
of excitement! We will win our share of games and with our
inexperience we will "stub" our toe at times.
By playoff time, this team should be ready to contend with
anyone in the league.
I
am excited for my J.V. and Freshmen teams as well. These
players and their coaches have worked as hard as the Varsity,
to prepare for the 2008 season. I will be keeping a close
eye on those teams, in hopes that many of their players
will soon be able to help the Varsity, if not this year,
then in the next year or two.
I
want to thank the administration for allowing me the opportunity
to coach this baseball team. With the talent and the backing
of this "baseball" city, I am confident that the
Westbrook baseball program will soon be one of the elite
programs in the state of Maine. I cannot guarantee victories
but I can guarantee that my teams will give their best effort,
and win and lose with class.
I
look forward to seeing you all at the games!
Sincerely,
Mike
Rutherford
