2009 JV Game Summaries

Westbrook vs Noble: 6-1-09

It was a tough game for Westbrook and they suffered their second loss of the season. Trevor Bates got the nod in this one and he put in a solid outing. Bates went all six in this one allowing four runs and striking out 12 batters. Unfortunately for Bates the offense wasn't able to back his strong performance. The two runs came in the first inning and they were driven in by Matt Weimer and Mike Veitze. Westbrook's record falls to (12-2) and they look to finish off the season (13-2) against their final opponent Cheverus on Wednesday.

Westbrook vs Kennebunk: 5/26/09

Westbrook rode the Chad-illac to victory in this one, winning the game 3-2 and improving their record to (12-1). Chad Egeland set the tone in this one with a solid start on the hill. Egeland went all seven allowing only two runs and striking out nine. The bats for Westbrook were quiet but what few hits they got, they made count. There were only two repeat hitters in this one for Westbrook and they were Matt Weimer and the young freshman stud Mitchell Chipman. Weimer went two for three with and RBI and Chipman went two for three as well scoring a run.

Massabesic vs Westbrook: 5/23/09

Another rough one but a win none the less. Westbrook JV improved their record to (11-1) with a n 11-9 victory over Massabesic. Nick Levesque got the start and had a tough time settling in, and Trevor Bates came in relief and struck out seven batters in 3 2/3 innings. While the defense was shaky, the Westbrook bats were able to overcome their defensive struggles.Tommy Lemay led the charge offensively going 2-2 with a triple and a double scoring twice. Shane Nealey had a strong day at the plate going 3-5 driving in one and scoring all three times he reached. Matt Weimer also contributed with three hits of his own and three RBI's. Trever Clouatre represented the bottom of the order well with three singles of his own accompanied by three stolen bases.

Biddeford vs Westbrook: 5-21-09

Westbrook's bats came alive against the Tigers. Westbrook was able to score twelve runs in a six inning shortened game due to the mercy rule. Matt Weimer took to the hill in this one, and he continued his dominance. Weimer allowed one run in a six inning complete game and struck out a season low four batters, but still looked masterful. The Blue Blazes bats just couldn't be contained and they produced three batters with multi-hit games, Mike Boothby, Mitchell Chipman, and Tommy Pratt. Other than those three they had another six guys with hits. After the game when asking Adam Begos about ten-run ruling Biddeford, he shrugged and simply said with a sarcastic tone, "I don't even care." Westbrook won the game 12-1 and improved their record to (10-1).

Thornton Academy vs Westbrook: 5-19-09

The local nine took the field trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season, and it looked like they might cruise easily at first. Chad Egeland started the game off striking out the side in the first, and to get their offense going, Tommy Pratt led the game off with a mashed double, and the next batter Tommy Lemay hit a two strike fastball over the fence for a two run shot. Chad Egeland battled all night for Westbrook striking out nine in 4 1/3 innings allowing seven runs only three runs. Thanks to some great pitching from reliever Nick Levesque, Westbrook was able to get into the bottom of the seventh only trailing by two. Stepping up to the plate with two out and two on was Trever Clouatre who singled to right scoring both to tie up the game. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tommy's struck again, Pratt led off the inning with a double his 4th hit of the night, and also Lemay capped off a four hit game with a walk off single that Pratt scored from second on.. When asked about his four hit performance all Lemay had to say was, "There's more where that came from." Westbrook won 8-7.

Westbrook vs Bonny Eagle: 5-16-09

Westbrook was dealt their first loss of the season at the hands of Bonny Eagle. Tommy Lemay started on the mound and got roughed up early, and Westbrook just couldn't get past it.Despite a two hit, two rbi night from Matt Weimer and a triple from Mike Veitze, Westbrook just couldn't spark their offense. Westbrook lost the game 6-4.

Westbrook vs Sanford: 5-14-09

Westbrook went into the game looking for win number eight, and after the rough first inning they had, it didn't seem possible. Westbrook allowed three runs in the first and only one was earned. Adam Slivinski took the mound and despite shaky defense, he was able to pitch a solid outing. "Sliva" pitched all eight innings allowing six runs, only two earned, and striking out eight. The Blaazes didn't have any big innings but they chipped away at a 5-1 Sanford lead and got it to 6-4 going into the seventh. Tommy Pratt led off the inning with his third hit of the day, a triple and he scored on a Adam Slivinski single. Westbrook tied it up and then took the lead in the top of the Eighth, thanks to an rbi single from Tommy Lemay, scoring Mike Boothby. The Blue Blazes won the game 7-6.

Westbrook vs South Portland: 5-12-09

Westbrook felt confident going into this game knowing that Matt Weimer was going to get the start, and he didn't disappoint. Weimer pitched all seven and allowing only three runs, and striking out nine. When asked what is his secret to success was Weimer said, "It's all about living vicariously through yourself." The offense much like the last game was slim but they again made what they got count. Tommy Lemay drove in a run with a double, but the big offensive hero of the day was Mike LaCourse. LaCourse had a sac fly to get the third run in for Westbrook, and he got the walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh with a single to drive in Tommy Pratt. Westbrook improved their record to (7-0) and they look ahead to Thursdays game against Sanford.

Westbrook vs Deering: 5-11-09

Westbrook went into the game hoping to put Deering away, they accomplished their goal, unfortunately it took 11 innings to do it. Pitching for Westbrook was Chad Egeland, and he pitched himself a game. Egeland pitched 10 innings to earn the win allowing only two runs and striking out 14. Westbrook had a hard time figuring out the Deering Pitchers but what offense they did get they made it count. Tom Pratt led the charge at the dish going 4-5 with two doubles and two Rbi's. Todd Hood also helped out with an Rbi single in the fifth inning. Westbrook won the game 6-4 after 11 hard fought innings.

Weimer pitched a complete game allowing only two runs, and striking out an astonishing 11 batters, improving his season record to 2-0. The Blazes didn't have the most impressive night offensively, but they were able to squeeze out five runs, all in the second inning. It started with a lead-off double from Weimer, and the big hit came by Mike Veitze who smoked a two run double in the gap. The Blazes finished off the game winning 5-2 and kept their undefeated season alive, with a record of 4-0.

Windham: 4/30/09

Unlike the previous JV game against Scarborough, this one was a pitchers duel between Westbrook and Windham. Matt Weimer was the starting pitcher for Westbrook, and he didn't disappoint. Weimer pitched all 7 innings allowing two runs and striking out seven batters. Westbrook was trailing 2-1 going into the top of the seventh, but thanks to one out hits by Trever Clouatre and Adam Begos they were able to get Tommy Pratt up with one out and runners on second and third. Pratt singled to drive in Clouatre and tie it up. Adam Begos scored on a pass ball to take the lead and cap off a two hit night accompanied by solid defense. Weimer toed the slab in the bottom of the seventh and made it look easy getting a quick one two three inning to get Westbrook the 3-2 victory.

Cheverus Game: 4-25-09

It was a slugfest through and through. Both teams came ready to play in the Westbrook JV season opener, and it ended with a nail biting 10-9 victory for Westbrook. Both teams swung the bat well and it showed in the final score.
In a combined pitching performance Tommy Lemay, Nick Levesque, and Trevor Bates brought home a victory for Westbrook. The game winning blast came from a wall ball double by Matt Weimer to drive in a pair in the bottom of the sixth that gave Westbrook a 10-9 lead, that proved to be the deciding factor.
