Leading Our Boys Of Summer
Greg Souza - Varsity Head Coach
Greg Souza, a former assistant, is the new Blue Blazes' varsity baseball coach. Souza spent five years with the Westbrook program prior to serving as bullpen coach and assistant pitching coach for St. Joseph's College last spring. Souza has been an assistant varsity coach, a junior varsity coach and a freshman coach for Westbrook. For the last three summers he coached Westbrook's American Legion baseball team.
Andrew Keirstead - Varsity Pitching Coach
Andrew Keirstead has played baseball for over eight years and taken on the role of a coach the last three years. With three years of high school baseball under his belt, one year of prep school, four years of college baseball at Saint Joseph’s College, and a year playing with the Sanford Mainers, it’s hard to just give up a sport. That’s why this year he has returned as the Westbrook Varsity Baseball Pitching Coach. He graduated from Westbrook High School in 2005 and received the Maine State MVP his senior year for baseball. At Saint Joseph’s College he received GNAC tournament MVP his sophomore year. He helped coach this team last year, worked with the junior and senior legion teams and helped lead the Junior Legion team to the Northeast Regional Championship. He’s also provided private pitching lessons at Maine Hits since 2010. Now he’s looking to give back to the Westbrook community by working for the Westbrook High School and coaching this year’s Varsity Blue Blazes.
Brian Flynn - Junior Varsity Coach
Brian Flynn has been coaching baseball for over 20 years. He served as a Varsity Baseball Assistant at Edward Little High School from 1989-2007. During that tenure, those teams advanced to the play-offs every season and won two state class A championships. In 2010, he became Freshman coach at Westbrook High School and last year he coached the Junior Varsity team. Having 3 sons, Flynn was actively involved in Little League, coaching at every level, including: minors, majors, juniors and seniors. One team advanced to the Eastern Regional finals in Connecticut, and another competed in the Eastern Regional 13-year old tournament in New York. For 5 summers, Flynn also served as Assistant and Head American Legion Coach for New Auburn, Post 153. Four of those teams competed in the state tournament, and one finished third in the state. Flynn has also coached football for over a decade, and the past two seasons he has coached the secondary, wide receivers and special teams for the Blue Blazes. Flynn is currently the Team Leader of the Freshman Teaming Program at WHS and teaches English.
Geoff Godo - First Team Coach
Geoff Godo enters his second season as part of the Blue Blazes' coaching staff, having spent last season coaching the First Team. Prior to that he was part of the baseball staff in Lisbon. Geoff grew up in Imlay City, MI and was a three year Varsity player at Imlay City High School, earning All-County and All-State honors as a shortstop and outfielder on a team that won two Class B District championships and one League championship. He still holds his school's record for batting average in a season at .619. The loyal University of Michigan graduate currently teaches Social Studies at Westbrook High School and also serves as the Varsity Golf coach. Geoff lives in Topsham with his wife, Jennah, and young daughters Islah & Celiah.
